About the Area
The town of Windsor located in Hartford County was, established in 1633 as the First Town in Connecticut. Nestled along the banks of the Farmington and Connecticut Rivers, Windsor economy had been dominated by two pursuits: tobacco farming and brick making. The last one disappeared in the 1960's. Much of that land has been redeveloped for recreational purposes or for today's modern office and corporate parks. Currently Windsor's industrial base encompasses a wide range of products and services, including insurance, software development, energy research and development, engine components and machinery.
The Town of Windsor is a great place in which to live, work and raise a family. This charming New England town provides residents with attractive neighborhoods, solid economic development initiatives, great shopping areas, dining and entertainment, and a wide selection of leisure opportunities for children, adults and seniors. The Northern Connecticut Ballet, located in Windsor, offers a unique ballet experience for children and adults. Windsor is home to 27 recreational sites totaling 1,155 acres. There are two public access golf courses, 21 tennis courts, and four swimming pools. Located six miles north of Hartford, Windsor covers a 31.1 square mile area on the west bank of the Connecticut River, that can be served as a great attraction for recreational activities such as boating and fishing. Windsor is located an equal distance from New York City and Boston. The town is only minutes from Bradley International Airport and served by a main-line railway between Boston and New York. Interstate 91, the Connecticut Turnpike, the Massachusetts Turnpike and the New York Thruway are also easily accessible.
